You have to admit that this CR-Z is awesome. Is also an SSR M/// as indicated on the front bumper.

Well if only the hybrid in it was more like 918 hybrid than Prius hybrid.

But hey, they did offer a manual on it.

I was on board with the look and the size, I just wish they did something to push forward the idea of a hybrid hot hatch, i.e. a 230hp K20 engine w/ hybrid system to fill the missing low-end torque of the engine.

Obviously this comes from a mind with absolutely no knowledge of auto engineering and no idea if a hybrid K20 is possible, but then again, I’m not a large automaker, either.

So the way Honda’s hybrid system works is, instead of the flywheel, you have an electric motor stuffed into the bellhousing. That’s it. Upshot is, a K20 is absolutely possible.

Also worth noting that the hybrid system added 11 peak system hp to the 2011-2012 model, and 19 peak system hp to the 2013-2016 model.

Here’s how I would’ve done the CR-Z model line, though.

Honda CR-Z HF: Stripped-down lightweight model, with either the LDA (1.3 liter) from the Insight (for 98 system hp) or something smaller - maybe the L12A?

Honda CR-Z Si: K20A4 from the Accord Sport. 198 hp to start with, so you end up with something like 209 hp before the refresh, and 217 after.
